Each month one of the designers will be showing off a crafty idea. While this challenge blog is mainly about scrapping about you, its also about figuring out your style and enjoying this hobby! So we hope the design and technique ideas will help inspire you!
This month's first challenge is by me, jessica*bree. I am going to show you how to make fancy doo-dads. Okay, doo-dads may not be their official name, but this month I am going to be sharing ideas and tips for making your own cute little layered embellies like these:
There a lots of cute Etsy shops selling fabulous handmade embellishments. While buying them pre-made is so easy, it can also be fun to make some yourself. Make them for a special layout or card or even as a gift for a crafty friend in your life.
How to Make Yours
Supplies:
Circle cutter/punches
Scissors (I used two, cutterbees for paper, and Tim Holtz
Fabri-tac glue for adhering to felt
Matte Accents or other clear glue
**all the rest of the supplies should be in colors that work together**
Scrap patterned paper in colors you like to use *this will be basis for your inspiration so choose something you love!
Buttons, bling and other small embellies
Ribbon, Felt & Fabric
Step 1: Punch a circle of patterned paper. I started with around 2" usually, but you can work with larger circles for bigger embellies. Try substituting a circle journal spot instead.
Step 2: Gather the ribbon, felt, fabric, bling, buttons, etc in colors and styles that match your paper circle
Step 3: Top your circle with layers of embellies, gluing each layer. I used Matte Accents by Ranger for this. I holds great, dries quick and leaves no shiny marks.
Step 4: Glue the embellished circle onto a square of felt using Fabri-tac. Cut around the paper circle to create a felt circle border.
Optional Step: If you are feeling fancy, stitch a little edge along the felt with a contrasting color of thread.
More Examples & Ideas:
For this one, I pierced holes in the PP circle and added stitching. The ribbon is wrapped around to the back and glued down using Fabri-tac (just hold down for 10 seconds to allow it to dry a bit before letting go).
Add in extra layers like I did here. the base circle (pink) was topped with another PP circle, chipboard shape, button and ribbon. Then backed onto a hand-cut scallop circle and felt.
Try stitching a little X on the embellie. This one has the felt on top of the punched circle.
this one uses a pre-made felt flower by Creating Imaginations as part of the embellie. The ribbon on top was just tied in a knot and then glued onto the button with Fabri-tac.
Last a few with chipboard shapes and ribbon
Oh and one with NO felt... you can skip that part if you want :)
Be sure to let us know if you make one! And happy crafting :)
