Each month one of the designers will be showing off a crafty idea. While this challenge blog is mainly about scrapping about you, its also about figuring out your style and enjoying this hobby! So we hope the design and technique ideas will help inspire you!
This month's first challenge is by me, jessica*bree. I am going to show you how to make fancy doo-dads. Okay, doo-dads may not be their official name, but this month I am going to be sharing ideas and tips for making your own cute little layered embellies like these:
There a lots of cute Etsy shops selling fabulous handmade embellishments. While buying them pre-made is so easy, it can also be fun to make some yourself. Make them for a special layout or card or even as a gift for a crafty friend in your life.
How to Make Yours
Supplies:
Circle cutter/punches
Scissors (I used two, cutterbees for paper, and Tim Holtz
Fabri-tac glue for adhering to felt
Matte Accents or other clear glue
**all the rest of the supplies should be in colors that work together**
Scrap patterned paper in colors you like to use *this will be basis for your inspiration so choose something you love!
Buttons, bling and other small embellies
Ribbon, Felt & Fabric
Step 1: Punch a circle of patterned paper. I started with around 2" usually, but you can work with larger circles for bigger embellies. Try substituting a circle journal spot instead.
Step 2: Gather the ribbon, felt, fabric, bling, buttons, etc in colors and styles that match your paper circle
Step 3: Top your circle with layers of embellies, gluing each layer. I used Matte Accents by Ranger for this. I holds great, dries quick and leaves no shiny marks.
Step 4: Glue the embellished circle onto a square of felt using Fabri-tac. Cut around the paper circle to create a felt circle border.
Optional Step: If you are feeling fancy, stitch a little edge along the felt with a contrasting color of thread.
More Examples & Ideas:
For this one, I pierced holes in the PP circle and added stitching. The ribbon is wrapped around to the back and glued down using Fabri-tac (just hold down for 10 seconds to allow it to dry a bit before letting go).
Add in extra layers like I did here. the base circle (pink) was topped with another PP circle, chipboard shape, button and ribbon. Then backed onto a hand-cut scallop circle and felt.
Try stitching a little X on the embellie. This one has the felt on top of the punched circle.
this one uses a pre-made felt flower by Creating Imaginations as part of the embellie. The ribbon on top was just tied in a knot and then glued onto the button with Fabri-tac.
Last a few with chipboard shapes and ribbon
Oh and one with NO felt... you can skip that part if you want :)
Be sure to let us know if you make one! And happy crafting :)

Hi, jessica*bree, girl of the double name here (which I explain on my layout this week). I have had 2 first names, 3 last names, and numerous nicknames over the course of my not so long life! Maybe that is why I love hearing about the stories behind others names. This week's challenge on Who's That Girl is to document a story about your name... it can be why your parents chose your name, how you ended up with a particular nickname or any other name related story.
And we have two more things this week... Our new Crafty Idea of the Month PLUS a chance to win these:
To give you an idea of how big they are:
For your chance to win these cute handmade embellies, just leave a comment here AND post about and link up the Who's That Girl challenge blog on your blog or a scrappy site. Let us know where you shared it so we can check it out!
Check out the team's take on this challenge!

Welcome to 2010! Also, welcome to the Who’s That Girl kick-off blog hop! It officially starts January 15th at 10am (EST) and will go through Sunday at 11:59pm (EST)--which is the deadline for qualifying for prizes.
You are officially at the first stop on this Blog Hop.
First off, we would like to welcome you to the new-year long AAM challenge blog. We will post two challenges a month. New challenges will be posted on the 15th and 30th of every month. I am looking forward to the new things we have in store for 2010, starting with our new DT! I find each and every one of them totally inspiring, and you will get to meet them all today!
Today, every blog you hop to will have a layout that they made based on our VERY FIRST CHALLENGE!
I am sure you can think of many words, and this one word does not need to describe you completely. Rather, choose one aspect of yourself to document. I find this a fun process to do periodically, so this is actually my third adjective I have scrapped about myself.
My first was Loquacious (aka talkative! and oh so accurate) and I have done Moody (also true). What word do want to document right now that describes you? A few ideas to get you started:
1. One lucky person who leaves a comment on all of our blogs in the DT blog hop will win this collection of goodies:
2. One person who does the challenge and posts in the Flickr group will win this collection of goodies:
Head on over to our founder Jessica*Bree’s blog to continue on your journey!
If you get lost along the way, here is the blog hop order:

When I first ran a challenge blog, it was All About Me challenges. I loved doing them and it was a great fit since I have no kids and scrap a lot about myself.
Since then I have tried other things, but I have never lost my love of a good All About Me page. While lots of people say they want to scrap more about themselves, many just never get around to it. And that is where Who's That Girl comes in! I have put together a great little design team who will be bringing you some fantastic challenges and layouts, with two main purposes:
1. To get you to tell the STORY OF YOU
Documenting your child's life or recording your family history are fantastic goals to have. But don't forget that you are a huge part of your child's life and your family. Taking the time to record who YOU are as a person is just as important. From the silly to the serious. From the everyday details to the once in a life time experiences, Who's That Girl is about recording your life. And often when I take the time to record my day to day life, I find I live more in the now and feel like I am participating in my life rather than just letting it float by me.
2. Learning more about WHO YOU ARE
Friend, mother, wife, sister... often as women we define ourselves by our relationships. And while those we love are a huge part of our life, there is more to us. When you look inside yourself, who are you? Who do you hope to be? Who did you used to be? Play along with Who's That Girl and get a chance to spend a few hours twice a month to explore who you are as in individual.
We will be sharing two challenges a month, the 15th and 30th, along with one technique/design idea at the end of each month. So in addition to recording who you are, we hope to make it fun to play and grow as a scrapper!
Look for our first challenge AND a great kick-off surprise on the 15th!
